Ok I'm back with a report on my recipes I've used today. So my throat has been sore from coughing all day and night. I have been using 2 drops of lavender with 2 drops of grapeseed oil and rubbing it on the front of my neck. This works great! I have done this every 4 hours and I can feel it wearing off at the end of the 4th hour.
Also ear pain....2 drops of basil on a cottonball works good too! I've been alternating with 2 drops of lavender on a cottonball, as well.

New Years Resolution
So I'm not usually one for New Years resolutions, but this coming year I am going to be healthier, get in shape, and use essential oils for more things. This cold that I have is not horrible, but still sucks! I feel like if I had been in better shape that I might be a little better off. I had started walking everyday and then ended up having a small surgical procedure that made it to where I couldn't exercise for 4 weeks. So I've gotten off track. I'm going to cut out junk food which is a HUGE thing for me! I am a stress eater. When I get bored or stressed, I eat junk. I'm 36 and weigh 155 lbs. My goal is to get back to 120 lbs and back in shape. I used to lift weights all the time in high school and well, the older I got the less and less that happened!
So I am going to chart my journey on my blog. I promise to blog a whole lot more too!

Some natural cold remedies
* Please note that not all oils are for internal use (ingestion). Please check the labels first! *
Honey Lemon Cough Syrup:
Honey Lemon Cough Syrup:
Ingredients
- 1 Tablespoon lemon juice or 3 drops lemon essential oil
- 1 Tablespoon honey (local honey is always best!)
- 2 Tablespoon hot water
- Mix together and drink
REMINDER: DO NOT GIVE HONEY TO CHILDREN UNDER 1 YEAR OF AGE.
Homemade shower discs:
Place a disc on your shower floor and as the water slowly dissolves it, the essential oil vapors combine with the steam to relieve cold symptoms:
Ingredients
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/3 cup water (enough to make paste)
- Eucalyptus, lavender, peppermint
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line a mini-muffin tin with foil liners. Mix the baking soda and water together to form a thick paste. Pour into cupcake tin. Bake at 325 degrees for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool. Top with one drop each of eucalyptus, lavender, and peppermint essential oils.
Tis the season to get a cold!
Sorry that it's been a while since my last post! Holidays were busy and filled with sickness! My 6 year old came down with a cold on Christmas Eve and he still has it! Now he's given it to me!
So what protocols am I doing? Well....same as usual although I'm out of Melaleuca so I added a few more things to my roller bottle.
For me:
Roller bottle: 20 drops Oregano, 20 drops Shield, 30 drops Lemon, 20 drops Melaleuca (I'm out of this!), and finally 20 drops of Frankincense, topped off with grapeseed oil.
I roll this on my feet every 4 hours.
I've also been rubbing grapeseed oil & frankincense on my neck to help with some reflux that I've been having.
For my lil' guy (6 years old):
Half roller bottle filled with grapeseed oil
10 drops Shield
10 drops Oregano
10 drops Melaleuca
Roll on feet every 4-5 hours.
Also I've been rubbing Respire on his chest every few hours.
Hope everyone is staying healthy!

Natural remedies for common ailments
I thought I'd catch up on some posts today. I've been busy, busy, busy this week and I guess now that my son is sick, it's a sign for me to slow down, too!
This is a great list of natural remedies for common ailments:
Sore throat: Honey mixed with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (you need to get the ACV that has the mother in it). ACV tastes pretty gross and I can barely stomach it at times. Mixing ACV with honey helps a lot. I've also read mixing some cinnamon in can help with the taste. A personal word of caution...ACV can also help "flush out your system," so only use a little bit at a time :-)
Ear pain: I am 36 and I have braces on my teeth. As an adult with braces things can get quite painful at times. Not only are my teeth shifting and hurting, but I also get jaw and ear pain at times. So I take a cotton ball, put 2 drops of Basil essential oil and/or 2 drops of Gardenia oil on the cotton ball and stick it in the ear that hurts. The pain clears up quickly! It's amazing. If you don't have both oils, one will work just as well.
Congestion: Spark Naturals "Respire" oil is great! 2 drops of respire mixed with 2 drops of carrier oil in your hand and rub on your chest. This will help open up your sinuses and break up the congestion.
Stuffy nose: Put a drop of lemon oil in your hand and rub a tiny bit on the base of either side of your nose. You'll be breathing in lemon oil and it will open up your nose! Awesome!
Nausea/Car sickness for kids: 2 drops of peppermint mixed with 4 drops of a carrier oil in your hand and rub on bottoms of feet and back of neck.
Ok that's all I've got for now! Hope you have a healthy, germ free day!

More germs and sickness...
I feel like a broken record lately! So my lil' guy went to bed last night with a sore throat. We had a busy day and he seemed fine all day long. I rubbed some of the flu bomb on his feet last night (melaleuca, oregano, and Shield with carrier oil). Whenever he gets sick he wakes up multiple times during the night crying but he's not really awake. He never remembers any of it. So he was up several times. At 4:30 a.m. he woke up and had a fever. I gave him tylenol and we tried to sleep a little more. By 6 a.m. he was wide awake.Once we were up and moving around I immediately started my essential oil protocol.
Sore throat: 2 drops lemon oil mixed with 2 drops of grapeseed oil in my hand and rubbed on the front of his neck. This not only helps with the sore throat, but he breaths in the lemon oil and that breaks up the congestion and helps him breath (his nose was barely stuffy).
Fever: 2 drops peppermint oil mixed with 2 drops of grapeseed oil in my hand and rubbed on the spine and back of neck. This will cause a cool sensation on the skin. He immediately wanted a blanket!
Overall germs: Flu bomb rubbed on feet (see above) every 4 hours.
Diffuser: 4 drops of Shield mixed with water in the Mirage diffuser in the rooms that we are in. The Mirage runs for up to 8 hours...so that is one less thing I have to worry about messing with!
I am praying that I don't get these germs. So I have been rubbing my feet with the flu bomb, as well!
