The cold that hung on forever!!!

Sooo....I have this cold and it has hung on for 12 days. It's much better than it was but geez!!! I've got snot and congestion.

So a friend of mine recommended some things that I'm trying.

I've started to use DoTerra's Breathe, along with some grapeseed oil on my chest and sinuses (note do not get near eyes!) I'm seriously hoping this will help!

She also suggested the below protocols that she found. I'm a little iffy on putting these in my neti pot...but you never know it might work well! I'm scared that it will burn my nose!

To address infection and symptoms (heavy duty):
  • 1-4 drops Eucalyptus (1 sufficient for most, 4 is very strong)
  • 2 drops Rosemary
  • 2 drops Frankincense
  • 1-2 teaspoons sea salt
Mix the above with 2 cups of warm water and, using a Neti pot (nasal irrigation device available at most drug stores) irrigate 2 times per day (or more).  See suggestion from Cherie in Experiences and Testimonials.

For added help:
  • 4 drops Frankincense
  • 4 drops Protective Blend
  • 4 drops Oregano
Add the above to a capsule and take 3 times per day.
Repeat daily as needed.
To address symptoms:
  • Use Respiratory Blend with cup and inhale or diffuse
  • Or use Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint

Crud, crud, go away!

So it's day #6 and the crud is still with me. Don't get me wrong...I feel better, but I have this thick disgusting stuff in my throat and nose. And no amount of essential oils, neti pot uses, etc. will make this stuff go away! So I tried an old stand by...however I kinda overdid it!

I made a "tea" of sorts with lemon, honey & warm water. This really helps with throat pain and also helps with loosening up mucous in the throat. So what did I do? I squeezed a whole lemon, 1 tablespoon of local honey, filled up the rest of the mug with water, and microwaved it for about a minute. Well, let me tell ya, a whole lemon is TOO MUCH! lol! My throat was on fire! lol! Here's my recommendation:

1/2 a lemon squeezed
1 tablespoon or a little more of local honey
Fill cup with water
Microwave for 1 minute
Make sure it's not too hot
Drink!

This can actually be a delicious drink when the right amount of lemon is added! lol!

Now I must confess that I broke down from my all natural path and went to CVS (my favorite store!) and got a cough suppressant so I could sleep. 48 hours of very little sleep equals one tired Mom! It actually worked for about 8 hours and I woke up coughing and took some more!

Update on the crud!

So after spending the last 2 nights coughing all night long with no sleep I still haven't found relief for the coughing. However, I have found that my recipe for the throat gargle works great!

2 drops of shield
2 drops of lemon
1 shot glass of water
Gargle

I gargled with this 4 times yesterday and my throat wasn't as red, swollen and painful as it was before. NICE!!!

Woke up this morning feeling somewhat better, still not great but manageable. I need some sleep but the coughing won't let up.

Sore throat gargle....

I hope everyone had a good New Year's Eve and is having a healthy & happy New Year's day! I went to bed and crashed. I've still got the worst cold ever and am now getting desperate to try new recipes to help this mess go away. I was up a lot last night coughing. This mucous that comes along with this cold is NO joke! It's thick and it stays in your throat. It will not come out. So during the night when you are sleeping peacefully it will wake up up from that peaceful sleep to feel like you are choking. It's not an awesome feeling as you can imagine!

So this morning after searching the internet for new oil recipes I found a sore throat gargle. The recipe call to gargle then swallow, but I'm still not sure about swallowing essential oils. I know people that do it and have no problems at all, but me I'll stick to the roller bottles and gargling!

So here's the recipe:

2 drops Shield oil
2 drops Lemon oil
2 drops Thyme (Unfortunately I don't have this!)
1 small (shot glass size) glass of water
Gargle with this mixture every few hours

A word of warning...the shield is hot. It will hit your lips and it will burn some. That will go away quickly. This stuff doesn't taste great, but if it works...I'm all for it!

I'll check back in to let you all know how it works!
