Hi! My name is Mandy and I started this blog to share my love of essential oils and natural health alternatives with everyone! I am going to share my story with you below. It’s a lot of detail but I feel that once you read it you will really know why I am against most medicines.
Three years ago I went to the doctor for what I thought might be a simple bladder infection. The doctor did the standard “pee in a cup” test and it came back positive, however when the culture came back a few days after that it showed negative for an infection. Well, without having the culture results the doctor said “Let’s start you on an antibiotic!” Not a lot of people realize how bad antibiotics are for your body…especially your gut! I took the antibiotic on a Thursday and then by Friday night I started feeling bad. I went to bed at 8 p.m. that Friday night and woke up shortly after running to the bathroom every few minutes. I was very sick. I could not keep anything down. If I swallowed one sip of water I immediately got sick. By 5 a.m. the next day I woke my husband up and told him to call an ambulance. I could look at myself and tell that this was not good. I knew this wasn’t a stomach bug, it just felt different. I was either vomiting or using the bathroom every 5 minutes (and that is no exaggeration). I could pinch my skin and it stayed in the “pinched” position. I knew I was dehydrated but every time I drank I got sick. I had no idea what was going on. At one point during the night I took an immodium to help stop things. Guess what….that didn’t stop anything! So the ambulance came and got me and when they saw me they knew I was severely dehydrated. They asked why I wasn’t drinking anything….and I explained everything. The hospital got me into a room right away. They ran all kinds of tests and their conclusion was “it’s a bad stomach bug.” Really? No that wasn’t it! So they kept pushing fluids in the IV and every thing I had put in me came out immediately. I had lost control of my bladder and bowels by this point. Since they diagnosed me with a stomach bug/aka gastritis….they gave me 2 more antibiotics to help things. Well, that made things worse! More vomiting, more stomach problems!
So 2 days had gone past and I finally had a diagnosis. I was diagnosed with C-Difficile. What is this, you may ask? It is not something I’d ever wish on my worst enemy! It’s where antibiotics take the good bacteria in your gut and kills it. So now that I had a diagnosis, the real treatment began. I was taken off the two antibiotics I was on and given a new medicine called Flagyl. This medicine helped things but didn’t get me even near 30% better. I had regained control of my bladder and bowels. I was good enough to go home after 7 days, so off I went.
This is where it gets scary. I was home for about 4 days. I had been drinking like the doctor said…eating soft, liquidy foods, and resting. I was sitting on the couch one night watching TV with my husband when all of the sudden my speech slowed, my limbs felt heavy, and I felt like I couldn’t move on my own. The flagyl made me nauseated all the time, which of course, wasn’t fun. But this was new….I told my husband to once again call an ambulance. Luckily my neighbors are on the EMS, so I had help immediately. At first they thought it was a stroke. I could talk but nothing was coming out fast….everything was slow. My blood pressure was so low and my heart rate was low, as well. So back to the hospital I went. I was there for 7 more days. The doctor ruled out a stroke and did a number of tests. I was kept on a heart monitor for the whole 7 days (side note….I have palpitations which I take meds for…nothing serious!). I had to go back on IV fluids and thanks to my research I did at home, I was put on a new very expensive antibiotic called Vancomycin (aka Vanco). This drug had little side effects compared to flagyl. We switched my probiotic as well, and things were better. By the end of the week I could eat solid foods!
To sum it up….Antibiotics are BAD! If you have to take them, please take probiotics while you are on them. These will save your good bacteria in your body! I lost 17 pounds in 2 weeks and was in the hospital 2 weeks! It was not fun and if I had known what I know now….I would have refused the antibiotic at the doctor’s office for the “bladder infection.”
So that leads us to today, where you will see that I will try lots of natural remedies first before seeing a doctor!
So you’ll read tons of helpful information on this blog about natural treatments, essential oils, and more! Happy reading!
